Ancient gateway to Hell found in Turkey, near hot spring system

One of the most incredible ancient sites is Hieropolis, known as Pammukale today, in Turkey. It sits on a travertine mountain and at the top issues forth a hot spring. Today you can see the remains of the Temple of Apollo that was topple by an earthquake into the spring (no dry suits needed for this site, it can be as hot as 100 degrees C). Nearby was the “Gateway to Hades” where archaeologists have found a statue of the three-headed dog Cerebus and a ceremonial entranceway to the underworld. Small animals keep dying as the team excavates due to the dangerous gases exiting the doorway located over the volcanic fissure. http://bit.ly/1hS71hF
